Course Overview
Load and Unload Plant is part of our Plant Operations training and is offered as an individual unit. This unit is ideal for workers in site-based roles who need to safely and efficiently transport plant machinery using trailers or floats.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to safely load, secure, and unload plant. It applies to those working in civil construction and mining industries. Prior experience operating the plant being transported is recommended.
This unit covers:
- Planning and preparing for loading and unloading operations
- Conducting pre-operational checks and selecting appropriate PPE
- Safely moving plant onto and off transport
- Using signage and barriers to isolate the site
- Calculating load weight and volume
- Placing and securing loading aids
- Identifying hazards, assessing risks and applying safe work practices
- Completing documentation and maintaining equipment records
Western Training provides training for operators of all skill levels. Our training is conducted at a specialised facility designed to simulate a live work site to ensure a seamless transition from a training environment to an active work site.

Delivery
The unit consists of a theoretical and practical assessment witnessed by a qualified assessor.

Requirements
- Must have good verbal and written comprehension of the English language
- Must have good general health and fitness for practicals
- Must wear long sleeved shirt, long leg pants and steel cap boots
- Must hold a USI (unique student identifier) number
