Course Overview
The Combined Gas Test & Confined Spaces course is part of our General Courses training, designed for individuals entering or advancing within the construction and mining sectors.
- MSMWHS217 Gas Test Atmospheres– This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to test the working atmosphere, using electronic test apparatus, to find out if it is safe for the proposed work. It applies to situations where an individual may be required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or workspace. The competency requires the person to interpret readings and take actions based on the interpretation. Working environment may be hazardous, unpredictable, subject to time pressure, chaotic and expose responders to risk, on land or water, by day or night. Workplace atmospheres may include visible and invisible hazards and hazardous surfaces.
- RIIWHS202E Confined Spaces Entry – This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to enter and work in confined spaces in the resources and infrastructure industries. It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.
The training is suitable for a range of work situations, including but not limited to:
- Confined and partially enclosed spaces
- Hot work
- Enclosed storage areas like silos, tanks, pits, and shafts
- Situations requiring gas testing as part of a work permit
- Monitoring atmospheres in open areas
Western Training provides training for individuals of all skill levels. Our training is conducted at a specialised facility designed to simulate a live work site to ensure a seamless transition from a training environment to an active work site.
